.: Education & Training :.
- Buyers usually work in other ranges of fashion jobs before going into the buyer occupation. They may start out as a salesperson that cares for the stock and working with customers.
- Most buyers study fashion merchandising or fashion design in college while some work their way into the field without academic background in fashion.
- A marketing/business degree can be notably helpful as a education background.
- Though there are no strict education requirements, some employers may prefer applicants with a college degree. People with bachelor degrees in business, marketing, or merchandising may obtain higher employment chances.
- Junior buyers sometimes proceed their education by way of participating in training programs led by buyers with experience.
- Even though internship isn't needed in becoming a buyer, working alongside with a professional buyer as a student is the best way to learn the basics and gain experience. After completing school, some can enter the buyer training program or apply as an assistant buyer, thought the training program is only opened to those who obtain a bachelor's degree in any field.
